Morocco lands in Haebangchon

Walk down the main strip of Haebangchon and you could easily miss it. The facade is unassuming, the sign small. But step inside and the shift is immediate: warm sandy walls, patterned lanterns, cushioned seats, and the kind of intimate atmosphere that makes a table for two feel like the best seat in the city. Morococo Café is the project of Wahid, a Moroccan owner who has been quietly bringing the flavours of his homeland to Seoul for years. The menu is short by design — a handful of dishes, each done with real care — and that focus is precisely what makes it work. Regulars know to book ahead on weekends, because packed tables are the norm here, not the exception.

What's on the menu?

Morococo keeps it simple and keeps it good. The menu revolves around a few Moroccan essentials, all at prices that surprise people who are used to paying Itaewon rates.

The Lamb Tagine is the dish to order: lamb meatballs slow-cooked in tomato sauce, served with egg and bread, with your choice of rice on the side. The Lemon Chicken Tagine, with green olives and a hint of preserved lemon, is the one regulars rave about most. For something lighter, the Carrot Salad, sweet and tangy with caramelised plums and toasted almonds, is a standout starter. Vegan options are available too, with a Morocco over rice plate that holds its own against anything else on the menu. Pair it all with a glass of wine, a draft beer, or the Moroccan mint tea — which alone is worth the trip.
