Where it all started
From a simple observation to a community space.
K-AFRO started with a simple observation: Black culture in South Korea is real, vibrant, and growing but finding it was never easy. Events scattered across different platforms, the best spots known only to those already in the know, recommendations hard to come by unless you had the right contacts. That gap is exactly what K-AFRO was built to close.
The idea was straightforward: one space where African and African-American cultures in Korea could be explored, celebrated, and shared. A festival, a live concert, a hidden bar, a restaurant serving food that tastes like home, a dance class that actually gets the music right, all of it in one place, for anyone who wants in. Locals, expats, internationals passing through, or Koreans curious about the culture. And for Black residents specifically, the practical stuff too: the right hair salon, the right shop, the services that help you feel at home.

K-AFRO is run by two siblings brought together by their love for Korean culture. Angie (앤지), based in South Korea, is the one who had the vision and handles the business side. Kane (케), her brother, travels frequently to Seoul and takes care of marketing and communication. Together, they built K-AFRO to give African and Afro-American cultures in Korea the platform they deserve

African music, food, fashion, and traditions from across the continent, including North African and Maghrebi cultures which are very much part of the African story. Afro-American sounds, style, and energy. The diaspora in all its forms. In South Korea, these worlds often mix and feed each other, so we cover anything that carries that DNA, wherever it comes from.
