Held at the Jecheon Cultural Center (제천문화원), the festival brings cultural activities to local residents. KACAIN’s performance will feature African rhythms and dance, alongside the energy of traditional Korean performing arts, as part of a program highlighting cultural diversity.
The event will introduce audiences to African artistic traditions in a local community setting, offering an opportunity to experience different cultural expressions through live performance.
Introducing KACAIN
The Korea-Africa Cultural Arts Institute, known as KACAIN, is an organization involved in cultural and artistic activities connecting Korea and Africa. Through its participation in public events, the institute contributes to the visibility of African performing arts in South Korea.
Its invitation to the Ppom Cultural Sharing Festival places African music and dance within a broader community program, rather than an event exclusively dedicated to African culture. This provides a setting in which audiences can discover artistic traditions from different backgrounds.
Performing Arts as a Meeting Point
Community festivals can help make cultural activities accessible to a wider audience, including residents who may have limited opportunities to encounter international performing arts. By including different artistic traditions in one program, they can encourage curiosity and engagement across cultural backgrounds.
Music and dance offer ways to experience cultural traditions through rhythm, movement and performance. At the Jecheon festival, KACAIN will contribute an African perspective to a program that also draws on traditional Korean arts.
