Everything you need to know about K-AFRO, our platform, and our services.

1. What is K-AFRO?

K-AFRO is your go-to guide for discovering African and African-American cultures in South Korea. We find the best restaurants, bars, hair salons, shops, dance classes and events so you do not have to search alone. Whether you are living in Korea, just passing through, or simply curious, K-AFRO is the one place where African and Afro-American cultures in South Korea come alive.

2. Who is behind K-AFRO?

K-AFRO is run by two siblings brought together by their love for Korean culture. Angie (앤지), based in South Korea, is the one who had the vision and handles the business side. Kane (케), her brother, travels frequently to Seoul and takes care of marketing and communication. Together, they created K-AFRO to provide a platform and greater visibility for African and African-American cultures in Korea.

3. What cultures does K-AFRO cover exactly?

We celebrate the richness and diversity of African cultures in all their forms. From music, food, fashion, and traditions across the continent, including North African and Maghrebi cultures, to the creativity and influence of the African diaspora, our goal is to showcase the many ways African heritage is expressed around the world.

This also includes Afro-American, Afro-Latino, and Afro-Caribbean cultures, whose music, art, cuisine, and traditions have been deeply shaped by African roots. In South Korea, these communities and cultures often connect, collaborate, and inspire one another. That’s why K-AFRO highlights the people, stories, and events that reflect this shared heritage, wherever they come from.

4. Is K-AFRO only for people from African and Afro-American communities?

Not at all. K-AFRO is for anyone curious about African, Afro-American and other Africa-derived cultures in South Korea. Whether you are part of the community or simply someone who loves the music, the food, and the energy, you are welcome here.

5. Is K-Afro free to use?

Completely. K-AFRO is a free guide built for the community. No subscription, no paywall, just good finds.

6. How do we choose the places we feature?

We feature places that celebrate African and African-American cultures, while also highlighting venues connected to Afro-Latino and Afro-Caribbean cultures across South Korea. We look for quality, authenticity, and vibe. If it feels right and brings something real to the community, it makes the cut.

7. Are our reviews paid or sponsored?

No. Every place we feature is chosen because we genuinely think it deserves a spotlight. If a partnership ever exists, we will always be transparent about it. Our credibility comes from our independence and we intend to keep it that way.

8. How often is the content updated?

We update K-AFRO regularly. Events are added as soon as we hear about them and new spots go live as we discover and verify them. Following us on Instagram is the best way to stay up to date in real time.

9. Do we cover places and events outside of Seoul?

Seoul is where we focus most of our energy, but if something is happening elsewhere in South Korea, we are not going to ignore it. Good things are worth sharing no matter the city.

10. Is it easy to find dance classes in Seoul (hip-hop, Afro dance, etc.)?

Easier than you think. Seoul has a growing scene of dance studios offering Afro dance, dancehall and hip-hop classes for all levels. We have put together a dedicated guide in our Events section so you can find the right class, the right teacher, and the right vibe.

11. How do I stay updated on events in South Korea?

The best way is to follow us on Instagram for real-time updates. You can also check our Events calendar regularly, we update it as soon as new events are confirmed. From concerts and DJ sets to community gatherings and festivals, you will not miss a thing.

South Korea is an increasingly diverse country and Seoul in particular has become a real hub for international communities. The African and African-American community there is active, creative, and growing. Like anywhere, experiences can vary, but the scene is vibrant and the connections you make here can be genuinely meaningful. K-AFRO is here to help you navigate it and feel at home from day one.
